Bobby John Henry Bakery – The Baker Of Music Row

You've probably never heard of Bobby John Henry Bakery unless you're a nosy restaurant customer, in which case you'll recognize his name as the answer to this question: Who made this surprisingly delicious bread?

Bobby John Henry's breads are slathered, sliced and broken at some of Nashville’s swankiest restaurants, boutique grocer's, and even the Tennessee Titans stadium boast Bobby John Henry Bread.

You might know the "Baker of Music Row" from an earlier career. The Oklahoma native started out as a country singer in the '50s and logged his share of time in Music Row's landmark and musicians' hangout The Spence Manor along with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Elvis Presley.

Eventually, Henry took over as owner of the suites at the hotel, running it as a lodge where some of the biggest names in music used to stay when they came to town to record, including Barenaked Ladies, Dolly Parton, and Widespread Panic.

After exiting the hotel business, Henry reacquired a kitchen at Spence Manor, which he leased to an aspiring bread maker planning to make baguettes for local restaurants. Baking intrigued Bobby John. At first, he just watched, but soon he asked the baker to teach him. His tenant never made a go of the business, so the rent checks never arrived.

Meanwhile, to his surprise, the 60-year-old Henry became a father again and had a sudden urgency to make some dough. He took up baking, even pulling a cot into the kitchen to sleep while the loaves cooked.

“I learned to make the baguettes just for fun,” he says. “But when I learned Emily was coming, I needed to make a living. So I started checking out books from the library to learn how to make other bread. I’d drive a cab during the day, and practice baking at night. I’d nap when I stopped at red lights.”

After selling his first few bread items back in 1997 His product line has now quadrupled and Henry has gained a reputation of being one of the best bread bakeries in the state.

We are still the only bakery located on music row and a  majority of the bakery's employees are either now or past: musicians, singers, songwriters, and music industry folks.

We mean it when we say:
"Bobby John Henry Bread Is Music To Your Mouth!"
